westbrom, Use only a 13amp fuse, and make sure earth wire in plug is connected (Green one at top of plug, inside)

One thing I remember from school is Amps=Watts divided by Volts. Example: 1000 watt fire, assuming 240v domestic current equals roughly 4 amps. (They'd just invented it during my last school year.)
