NZ phone coverage

Just wondering if anyone knows what the T Mobile coverage is like in the South Island of New Zealand. My friend has gone over last week and I've not heard from them.

It will depend on the phone and type of account, but assuming they checked beforehand that it would be OK, all I can say is that coverage of any mobile network on the SI is very patchy outside the cities. I know it`s not much help to you now, but the best way to keep in touch from over there is to buy a phone card and use the public phone boxes. We got great value for 20NZ dollars when we were there.
