Ah, no Jim. You seem to be vascillating between an ‘all scientists are of course open-minded’ position and a ‘don’t ask such stupid questions’ position.

No, you're misunderstanding.

It's not a stupid question to ask, but it's massively premature. You can't ask "why" until you've established "if". That's the point.

Open-mindedness has to be tempered by how the world is, and what the evidence supports.

Okay, but I'm not suggesting it should be taught in schools or added to textbooks, just kicked around - which is surely what has always happened to 'outlandish' ideas.

I don't live by anecdotal evidence - only a fool would. But neither do I dismiss the volumes of such stories as ALL being just rubbish!
