What is it about American politics that a presidential candidate, Trump, can denegrate a man who had done the state some service yet go on to win?

AMES, Iowa — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump slammed Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a decorated Vietnam War veteran, on Saturday by saying McCain was not a war hero because he was captured by the North Vietnamese.

“He’s not a war hero,” Trump said. Sarcastically, Trump quipped, “He’s a war hero because he was captured.” Then, he added, “I like people that weren’t captured.”

When I was replying I was thinking of our Taoiseach who was born and raised a Catholic yet has no time for the Church but on behalf of the Irish people was graceful and welcomed the Pontiff but still gave him a bit of whatfor without being insulting - which was great because he's a modern man of the world and everything the church opposes
