I don’t know who else to turn to. I was walking my dog in rural Watford and my dog started barking at something in the trees which was shaking the branches a few times, also when my dog went into the bushes I was aware of a horrible stench usually associated with the smell from a zoo.

2 days ago I my dog ran the bushes to get his ball and started I went to see what was wrong and suddenly was aware of something in the bushes, I went to grab my dog when a humanlike hand came out to grab him shrieking, I screamed and this figure ran away and climbed the tree.

Shaken I ran with my dog and called the police, the they searched and said it was probably a man hiding but no one was there now.

I know for a fact this was a chimp or other primate.

I’m to scared to go there now and don’t know what to do and I’m going mad.

What shall I do?

Avoid the area for a few days and forget about it

I wil but am worried about other dog walkers and children.

I’ve scoured the news but there’s nothing about any escaped animals or no circuses in town.

Should I alert the rspca?
Take a photo next time you see it.
I'd bring some fruits, bananas and the like, and leave them there. Our hirsute cousin must be hungry
I find it difficult to believe that the police came and searched and told you it was probably a man hiding in the bushes.
So the police found no trace of a nest, droppings, prints, animal fur?
Question Author
No They didn’t bother to search properly and it was apparent that they were stifling laughter.

I’m just wondering now whether it was all in my head and due to my medication playing tricks on me
Possibly.
Question Author
Well I won’t be walking him in the dark again that’s fo sure. Many thanks. I need a lie down.

But to be sure, I’ll Phone the police and the rspca, possibly the zoo to investigate as I wouldn’t want to forget about it and then hear on the news that dogs, dog walkers and kids were horibaly mauled and attacked due to my complacency.

Many thanks all.

And just to be safe if you know anyone who goes to bushey Park, tell them to avoid until it’s been given the all clear.
o.k.
Which zoo will you phone?
sigh
You could go back with a couple of friends, no dogs, make a lot of noise and search for signs of the chimp, take photos if found.

SNAP!!!!!!!!
