Well have finished cleaning 3 bedrooms thoroughly ie pulled everything out and have begun to hoover stairs.

Oh I just soft brushed the 3 rooms and washed them.

Now I find that the fan belt has snapped - I have fixed many fan belts before but this is a first for this hoover.

It is a hoover make and when I took the cover off I'm have difficulty in inserting the new fan belt as there is very little room to manoeuvre ie slipping the new belt on. All my other hoovers had a little gap where I could have managed. Any help please. And sorry for being on chatterbank. Thanks

What's the model number of the vacuum cleaner, Conne?

(It should be on a little plate somewhere, like the one shown here: https://service.hoover.co.uk/images/guides/c0a53763-cbb1-4a16-89e1-23dddf777400.jpg )
