Several years ago (20 maybe) there used to be a sweet that came in a pack and was similar to rolling tobacco. It was like strips of dried spiced coconut, and was called something like "golden Hind". Anybody else remember this?

I remember that well - you could choke if you ate too much at once without any drink! Did it come in a pack or a tin? I think it was called Golden Hind too, you have a better memory than me - I went on to the wacky backy after they stopped making that! LOL
It was definitely called Golden Hind, the red wax wrapper had a picture of Drake's ship on it.
It was just called "sweet tobacco" as far as i remember.Loved the wrapper, loved it!
Yeah, it was (and is) called sweet tobacco. My children love it, I buy it in an old fashioned sweet shop in Lancaster.
It is called Spanish Gold and was supposed to be pirate tobacco. They sell it at a old type of sweet shop in Lincoln along with all the other oldies that you used to get. The only thing is that Spanish Gold comes in a polythene bag now.

This sweet and other old fashioned coconut sweets can be found at http://www.sweetsforu.co.uk

It is definately called Sweet Tobacco. I have bought it here before

I think BOTH golden Hind and Spanish Gold existed. The one you can buy now is most like the Spanish Gold. The Golden Hind stuff came in a red waxed paper packet, like an imperial leather soap bar wrapper almost! And the Golden Hind 'tobacco' didn't have chocolate on, it was redder than the Spanish Gold version. Loads of sites sell the Spanish Gold stuff, but I have yet to find the Golden Hind or its equivalent :-(
I go in that shop spudqueen, it's cracking isn't it! Though I have to admit to a guilty childish giggle at the big jar of 'invalid toffees' !
