Sorry to ask the obvious but :

a) are you 100% certain you have the right key?

b) have you tried jiggling the steering wheel while turning the key?

i have the correct key, it worked this morning but when i went out half hr ago it would not turn! i have tried the usual method of turning the wheel slightly but it still wont budge!
Will it be anything to do with being too hot outside?

Andy
prob a starter or battery that needs changed have u tried bunp starting the car????
Most Ignitions locks work on a cam and lockpin principle. The 8-10 pins located by small springs which are pushed up (in profile/cam or cut of the key) when you insert said key they line up and you can turn it. If one or more of the pins gets sticky with age/gunk then they don't re-locate.
Try WD/40 spray or lock/graphite lubricant first. If that doesn't work it could be a broken spring which will need replacing. Good locksmith could rebuild. But would be cheaper to get replacement barrel from breakers.
hi it will need a new barrel if you can not turn the key you will also need your car pass if you want to keep the same key or new barrel and key and then need the keys programing at main dealer
