daany ah! the link........so, by your link ( bless them) if the clue said 5&4....then fieldmice would be incorrect.
We didn't know whether it was one or two words until 11.18 Mamya.
Sqad, you are being pedantic.Different dictionaries give either of the spellings.
danny ...not true...you link only mentions Fieldmice.
"Sqad, you are being pedantic"

Correct danny.......;-)
Sqad. Chambers gives it as Field mouse. Can we now consider the matter closed.
danny ....YES....but I need to see the link of the Chambers definition.........
I looked it up in my hard copy of Chambers. If you are still not satisfied I suggest that you check all the dictionaries available to you.
//Field Mice is two words.....the clue indicates one word//
hence your answer Harvest Mice :-)

Collins only has the plural as fieldmice, although has both field mouse and fieldmouse as the singular.

So is Chambers Wrong or is Collins wrong?
jj, Neither are wrong they are alternates.
ael....my two words was at 11.15.....we didn't know it was one word until 11.18.

Danny........i have put in Fieldmice in Chambers search and it says........NOT FOUND.

So it must be two words in which the case the answer Fieldmice is correct, but not a word.......

I agree danny....let's call it a draw......;-)
Sorry, but Chambers has it as one word - field'mouse - & by extension, field'mice.

The ' is a stress mark that follows the syllable that has the main accent.

Chambers Online also has -

fieldmouse - noun any of various species of small mouse...
Sqad, from Chambers Word Wizard
fieldmouse noun any of various species of small mouse, native to Europe, non-tropical Asia and S America, with yellowish-brown fur, prominent ears, large beady eyes and a long tail, that live among dense vegetation and feed mainly on seeds, but also eat berries, roots, insects and grubs, and can cause serious damage to tree seedlings.
O.K...a win for Danny.
