Company is going to introduce urine testing of employees later this year (supposedly to stamp out drug use etc...) anyway....what will show up in the tests......will all drugs show up? How long would it take to flush out your system ....is there any instant remedy to flushing out your system of any legal/illegal drugs that might be sloshing around?

Yes all drugs will show up. I have a drugs test were I work. Cannabis (just about the tamest of drugs) stays in your system the longest. I am not sure but I think its about a month) They should show you a list of what they test for.  Stay clean and you'l have nowt to worry about! Im sure some other people on here will know more about the lenght of time certain things stay in your system for tho.

Here's a page with a record of most common drugs of abuse and their expected detection times.

<sigh> remove the jolly <p> from the end of the web address and it will work fine <sigh>

First of all are you doing drugs? If your not then there is no reason for you to worry. If you are doing drugs then i suggest stoping because it can kill you in the long run. Also ask your self if the drugs that you are doing is not safe then just don't do it. It only takes a few weeks for you system to flush only if you stop taking or doing drugs.

This really pee's me off (excuse the pun) . How dare any company think they have the right to legislate against what we do in our spare time?

I can understand if you are a brain surgeon or airline pilot then there are issues about performing your job in a sober state.  But if you are the kind of person that enjoys a spliff or two in your spare-time in the evening, then what business is that of your employer?

I don't take any sort of illegal substances myself, but I totally reject the idea that my employer should be allowed to test me for these.

If an employer wants to make sure that none of its employees take intoxicating substances out of work hours, then they sould  pay its staff 24 hours a day.

Pretty much all drugs will show up, as will non-drugs (poppy-seed muffins, anyone?).  Marijuana is fat-soluable, so the heavier you are, the longer it will stay in your system.  Drinking lots (and I mean *lots*) of water before the test will help to flush your system a bit.  Good luck!

Advicegirl, all drugs will NOT kill you in the long run sweetie.  Fact.

I'm in total agreement with Headtime.  Companies would never test for alcohol routinely in their employees, and that costs more days off work, or accidents in work etc in the UK than drugs ever could.

As said above, all drugs will show up. Agree with kick, drugs do not kill, it is if the person abuses the drugs and the amount of drugs taken etc that will kill. You can't say stop taking drugs coz they will kill, that's like saying stop taking parecetamol when you've got a headache! But if you overdose on them then there is a chance they will kill.

its what they will do with this information that worries me - will your progress be slowed because you like a beer or two in the evening or will your bosses look down on you if you take medication for treatment of depression etc. Who is in control of this info, where is it kept and under what security - and more to the point do you seriously trust the people in charge to deal with this info...

I can't imagine that the company has the right to do this and would think that an employee would be perfectly entitled to refuse.  I don't know the law on this sort of thing but would be interested to know what it is.

Companies can insist on medicals before you join an organisation and if your work is suffering because of a medical condition, but testing all employees' for drugs seems very suspect.    Somewhat of a 'Big Brother' situation.  Glad I don't work for such an organisation!

Chinadoll, in relation to FP's answer above, maybe you should check your contract of employment or talk with your union rep. Because if it's not specified in your contract, you may well have the right to refuse to take the test.

A worrying development in America is employers taking hair samples. Traces of drink, nicotine and drugs (infact anything you've consumed) are all detectable in hair for up to a year depending on it's length !

Sorry to post so late......

DON'T EAT POPPY SEEDS

This will show up on the test..... I was watching a TV Show where they actually tested this and it worked.... so be careful. Also be careful with codeine as it is a by-product of heroine (I think) and this too is picked up....  so be aware of this before you agree to be tested. :-)

Here is a website that may also shed some light on the poppyseed issue

Well, yes if you are a drug addict then it will surely be shown in your urine test. But don't worry as there are many ways by which you can surely pass the urine test easily. There are many websites available out there where you can easily get synthetic urine samples which is just like the real one and will surely help you to pass the test easily. Well, you can get the whole kit in which you can get the sample and with that, you will also get the temperature riser also. If you want to know more about it in details then you can visit the link given below:
