Hi,
Lavenders love full sun as do most medditerian herbs, also patio roses like full sun. As a quick rule, just think of plants that you have seen in dry hot places, like the med and deserts and then you can't go wrong.

Good Luck
We have a spot like that and we grow the most gorgeous Sunflowers from seed, though I'm sure you could get seedlings. They are trouble free, hardy and quite spectacuar.
Shrubs that are sun lovers - all varietiies of Hebe, Cistus, Buddleia. Perenials ie flowers that die down in winter and re appear in spring - Coreopsis, Geraniums(Hardy), Penstemons, Crocosmia, Daylily, Japanese Anenome. Annuals ie flowers that only last one season and then die -Petunia, Busy Lizzie, marigold to name but a few. Pop into your nearest Garden Centre and you will get some free advice. ps with this heatwave plants are under stress and will need a good soak unless you have a hosepipe ban. good luck
