3d: I'm "to name" put differently: n*m*n*t*. ?Nominate: anagram of I'm to name......only it isn't an anagram of that. ?Compiler error? Any ideas?

Maybe it's meant to be, 'in to name'
"Ammonite" would work as an anagram
It is, VE, although I can't see a definition there
I have put it down to error, unless someone comes up with better.
Nominate fits the grid.
Is the first letter definitely 'n'?
It is
I was surprised to get several thousand hits for NOMIMATE on Google. Is there French angle here?
But if the pattern is definitely right it can't be NOMINATE anyway
Not easy to delibereately mistype a common word. I meant of course it can't be MOMIMATE
The pattern as shown is correct, the crossing answers are all easily parsed - I also put the not-quite an anagram down to setter's error.
Or NOMIMATE.
Time to get back in the garden I think
