Thanks sddsddean
Occitan is related to Catalan and is still widely spoken today. It's produced one Nobel prizewinner, Frederic Mistral, who won the prize in 1904 and wrote in the Provencal dialect of Occitan. The most famous proponents of old Occitan were the troubadours of the middle ages. The poems and songs of these itinerent performers had a profound effect on literature throughout Europe.
