a lot of Chinese/Russian ahead of us time wise ..but prime time there ..if you see what I mean
mods don't clock in till 10am, the lazy blighters.

Maybe to do with the time zones - Russia, India etc - where the spammers seem to be based?

I suppose so Minters, that makes sense.
boaty does the business of a morning
i don't know why they bother creating an account, the spam emails are soon removed so they are wasting their time

Don't get why these spammers are posting on a UK based website though jno.
probably blanket posting to many similar sites across the globe.. once the site is identified
Other factors- there are fewer mods and there is no Ed around to zap the spam. Spam that comes in during the day ususally disappears immediately, so we don't see a lot of it unless we are on here all the time.
Most spam never makes Latest Posts though and goes under the radar- there are usually a dozen or so posts, mainly in the early hours, from spammers who trawl old threads from say 2009 and post spam relies- usually threads about SEO, phones, flower deliveries, wedding dresses etc. Having said that i think last night was pretty quiet on that from too.
I think minty's right, you just type a post once and your robots send it out to any sort of website that accepts posts. There was a Russian one last night (it seems to have vanished now) that was all in Cyrillic. I put it into Google and it appeared to be advertising the services of young women in Novosibirsk, where so many young British men go on holiday.
At 8am you've already missed many of the spammers, Nailit!

If I'm still up at around 5am to 7am I'll typically zap at least three or four spammers during that period and there can often be far more. (I think 15 is my early morning record). Further, Boaty is also using his zap button a lot around those times too.

Much of the spam comes from Indian SEO (search engine optimisation) people who get paid to litter the internet with links to certain sites so that Google will move those sites up its search rankings. (The owners of those sites couldn't care less whether anyone on AB is interested in their products or services. It's simply having lots of links on apparently legitimate threads that sees their sites get improved Google rankings). The time difference between here and India seems to explain the morning rush.
