Anyone else had a near death experience?

Not sure where to post this but it seems as good a place as any. Today, like lots of others probably, I was working in the garden, and I had music playing in my living room. Because I was outside, I had it up that bit louder so I could hear it outside, and at about 1pm I decided to have my lunch. So I've got it ready, gone in the living room to eat it, sat down, and then realised I needed to turn the music down because it was too loud. I got up, walked over to the hi fi to adjust the volume, and at that moment the speaker (or to be exact, the bracket and the speaker weighing a fair bit) that was directly above where I had been sitting came away from the wall and crashed down into the chair.

I have no doubt it could have been killed or seriously injured me, and as I live alone, no one would have known. It could also have killed one of my dogs, because when I'm not in the chair, she sleeps in it.

I'm calm about it now but I have to admit I was really shook up at the time and indulged in a large brandy and some ciggies (I actually gave up weeks back, but I'm still on NRT - trouble was, a lozenge couldn't cut it!!). I was like that for a good few hours too.

Anyone else had such a near miss?

Hi Postdog, hope you are feeling a bit better x
Some years ago me and a friend where crossing a main road, we watched the lights change so we knew it was ok to cross, I got to about a quater of the way across, the next thing this car came from nowhere, driving at top speed. I went to run back to the kerb but my friend told me to stay still. I think I did a full turn in panic because I didn't know where to run. This car hit the kerb. I got across the road and nearly vomited because I thought, if I'd have run back to the kerb......well lets just say I wouldn't have been here to tell the story. It still gives me the shakes when I think about it.
ye i ran across the road n while i was in the middle of the road i saw a car comein at me so i stopped n every1 was lukin at me, it was so close i was reali shuk up
i don't know exactly how close to death i was but when i was about 3 years old i went blackberry picking with my family. well like all kids i didn't want to wait to get home to eat the berries so i kept helping myself. my brother thought it would be funny to telltales so he went running to our parents saying how i was eating all the berries.
it turns out i wasn't eating blackberries but deadly nightshade.
i was rushed to hospital and had to have my stomach pumped out.
dread to think what might have happened if he hadn't been such a grass!!!
That is scary. I live alone too, and have been very ill. Maybe you should leave your front door open during the day if you are in, just in case anyone neds to get in??!
that is a near accident, not a near death experience - true near death experiences involve the heart actually stopping and then being restarted.

still sounds scary though. you were lucky.
i have never had either, touch wood

Sorry joko, I'm not really in the mood for pedanticism - the fact is, it could have killed me had I not got up at that precise moment, and that, to me, is near death.

What's worse is now I'm remembering the Final Destination films......
I had a near death experience once, it was on my wedding day ;)
whatever postdog, just making an observation, but if thats pedanticism to you then so be it.... but don't have, nightmares do sleep well... avoid long white glowing tunnels...
i've had a couple in my younger days, when i was about 6 i ran in front of a double decker bus! How it missed me i will never know. The boy i was with at the time went mad at me. I was extra careful from then on.

The second time was when i was about 13/14 Me and my friend were on the corner chatting before we parted company and all of a sudden a car came along and mounted the kerb on the opposite side of the road to us crashing into a garden wall!!! You can't help but think, if we had been stood on the other side of the road that day, which we often did, then there's no way we would have lived to tell the tale. Yes, postdog. It is frightening to think how close you came! Guess it just means you're number wasn't quite up just yet!
cars eh?! last year i slept over at my friend's house. after i fell aslepp he accidentally left the gas on overnight. the flat stunk the following day - lucky i didnt get damage from inhaling it, but even more lucky i didnt spark a cigarette first thing the next day!
Many years ago Iwas about to go to aclub with some mates and Iwas about to step into the car when a seering pain shot up into my head.I decline lift at that point and 5 mins later the occupants where Iwould have been sitting 17 and 18 were killed in a crash. That was scary
