deep heat is meant to be good, or tiger balm
ibruleve gel but only if it is muscular
Your wife also needs to take a painkiller such as ibuprofen or aspirin regularly, not just when she notices the pain for at least 2 days.

This will help her to move more freely, which in turn wil help the stiffness to lessen.

Massage will be good.
If the pain is ongoing in that she has had this for a while I would see your GP and ask for an X-ray.
Is the pain at the top of the neck at the spine ,or the side of the neck .?
Wheat bags that you heat in the microwave are very good also Feldene or Traxam gel together with a painkiller.
She should see her GP if it doesn't clear up.
Before she slaps on any Ralgex or gel, make sure she reads the instructions. I'm sure I have read not to use them on the neck.

I used to suffer with stiff neck/shoulder for years, and I have now cured it by buying a moulded pillow from Puttnams. Looks weird but has done the trick.
