According the BBC this morning and my Guardian today, "Youthquake" has been selected by Oxford Dictionaries, as the word of the year, for 2017.

Thought it was just me Jo !
youthquake, another word for a rumble...
"According the BBC this morning and my Guardian today..."

Says it all, really.

Mikey - you can afford a Guardian?!
Question Author
Jack...lol !

But its Oxford Dictionaries that have chosen the word, not the "lefty" BBC or the "lefty" Guardian.
Question Author
GG...not every day !
I should think not, Mikey, not at £2 a go! Do you know it's going tabloid in January? All that money wasted on special 'Berliner' presses!
It hadn't really registered on my radar, when the youth descend here it's more of a tornado.
Question Author
GG...yes, dreading it, of course. Its taken me years to get used to the Berliner and now they are changing again. I have been reading The Guardian for over 40 years now

Araucaria must be turning in his grave !

Lets hope it survives, as British Newspapers really don't have a very good record when it comes to the change to a Tabloid.
It's been tabloid for years. The only broadsheet you can get these days is the Telegraph, thank God!

Jack....I take it then, that you have no idea of what "Berliner" means, as regards newspapers ?

Never heard of it to be quite honest, although it will come as no surprise to you when I tell you that I hardly buy it on a regular basis. I find Andrex quilted much kinder to my bottom.

I was about to answer the OP, but it seems to have nitpickingly gone off topic I won't bother.
I was interested enough to do a little research into another front runner - Milkshake Duck.

How these come about is sometimes quite enlightening.
Before I even got to the mention of Diana Vreeland in the '60s, I was thinking there was nothing new about youthquake and its meaning. The youth have been doing it for decades.
