The PC needs to detect the phone's logged into the app. You point the phone at that square random pattern data thingy on the PC screen.

I would doubt you could get it to work having forgotten your phone, but go to the webpage, use the web option in the app and see how things go.

I acknowledge that I know nothing about the use of Whatsapp but feel sure that I have read somewhere that Whatsapp can be used from a laptop with Internet connection, even if the mobile phone is miles away. However, I think for some reason the mobile must be switched on with an Internet connection.
