How on earth can one claim from a pothole cost a local authority £1.8 million pounds. That's one expensive alloy wheel.

Maybe the pothole led to a crash that caused a fatal injury.
You may have to prove you also have a right to know the details via an application under the same act.

I was being a little flippant rockyracoon, I'm aware that it must have been serious.
It is not uncomon for individual insurance payments to be several million pounds if the person is very seriously injured- eg quadraplegic, cannot work again (lost earnings) and needs major adaptations to their home and constant care for the rest of their life. And the new Ogden discount rate introduced has pushed the payout costs significantly too.
I agree entirely with the motoring public taking the Local Highways over the state of the roads, why should something you have paid thousands for having to undergo the poundings from pot holes.
