Fast boil kettles - always noisy?

We've had 2 stainless steel fast boil kettles which have been extremely noisy - so bad that you could hear from the bedroom when someone was making a cuppa!

Is this a 'feature' of all fast boil kettles, is it because we live in a very hard-water area or have I just been unlucky? Can anyone recommend a brushed steel finish cordless kettle (jug or normal) that is QUIET?
