Is Waxing good? I usually just shave my legs every few days, but I always, always get a nasty shaving rash about the third day after shaving if I don't keep it up! I've tried loads of different razors/foams/gels/creams etc but as soon as the hair grows back it gives me a horrendous itchy rash all over my legs! Yuk! I use hair removal cream on my bikini line, but same again, as soon as the hair starts growing back, yukky rash again (particularly attractive in the bikini area I might add - especially when you give it a good scratch!) I'm going on holiday in July with my boyfriend and his family (boyfriend doesn't care if I'm a bit stubbly occasionally) but I don't want to be the hairy/stubbly/spotty/itchy girlfriend! So I was thinking of going for a wax session? Would this be a good idea? The pain doesn't bother me, just really want to avoid a horrid rash!

Waxing is good, I'd definately recommend it for going on hols, however you might still get a rash as it seems your problem is with ingrowing hairs if it's happening a few days after shaving, rather than the removal method. You might want to try exfoliating daily to help with this.

hi ktlou, highly recommend waxing, makes the hair regrowth much softer after regular use. and definately agree with asteroid99, that exfilliating is important.

If you're not bothered about the pain, by an epilator, they come with a cooler these days that you put in the freezer before you start and the hairs dont have to be so long as in a waxing situation.

I used to get my legs waxed but have found over the past few years that the hair stopped growing back and now I don't need to do anything, not even shave. You might find you get a slight rash from waxing the first couple of times but put some aloe vera gel on and this will help.

ok so next question - what exactly do I have to do to exfoliate? Obviously never done it before so is there a certain product thats good to use?
how long do you need to let the hairs grow on your legs before you can have them waxed? Dont know if i could handle days of being stubbly.

It used to be tht the hairs had to be quite long but that's not the case anymore. I get waxed on the first Saturday of every month. The hairs are not too long and it still comes off no problem.

The only problem with waxing is it encourages ingrowing hairs, which is where the exfoliator comes in. You don't need to go for an expensive brand name as they all do the same job. Exfoliate all the areas you get waxed around 2 or 3 times per week and that will help loads - your skin looks and feels amazing for exfoliating regularly too :)

i use one of theses spongey/lacey type things to exfoiliate with....

Kazzi, they have to be longer than if you choose to epilate.

3-5mm for waxing and much smaller for epilating....

I hate shaving my legs, because the hair grows back all stubbly.
Have been waxing for years, and think it's great.

If you have the chance to get it done professionally, go for it!

I have never been exfoliating, though...

I got so sick of years of waxing/epliating and the horible rash, I took the plunge and had laser treatment to kill of the hair on my legs. Best thing I ever did, although it was very expensive.

The best thing I've found for exfoliating is M&S Royal Jelly and Pure Honey Sugar Body Scrub. I'm not that keen on the smell (like Eau de Cologne) but it works very well and leaves your skin feeling very smooth.

I have just had my legs waxed for the first time. I would like to report that I was pooing myself, but it hurt sooo much less than I was expecting, and in fact, was quite nice, in a wierd kind of tattoo pain way. If you see what I mean!

So go for it - it's fine!
