I'm seem to remember they tried to in the sixties but scrapped it because children were walking to school in the dark in the winter. Does anyone else remember this?
its also good for the farmers!

also, no i wasnt here in the 60's!!
BST is one hour ahead of GMT, ie the sun rises at say 0430 rather than 0330 and sets at say 2230 rahter than 2130. There is no additional daylight but it meant that people were normally out and about for more hours during daylight rather than having to get up earlier.

The "experiment" Hellion" refers to was when we (in UK) kept BST all year round rather than putting the clocks back in the Autumn. It meant that children (particularly in Scotland) were walking to school in the dark.

Just a thought - but if it was changed wouldn this contribute to increased cases of depression ie - SAD Seasonal Adjustment Disorder - where sufferers become depressed due to lack of sunlight (i know there are the same amount of daylight hours but not everyone is awake during them...). I think 2/3 of the population already suffer from some form of depression don't they....?
