Tringer - we've been trying to educate Browneyes to stop posting questions individually, not to ask questions that have previously been answered and to try and do SOME of a crossword on his own. Now we have empee following suit., posting each question separately and asking questions that have already been answered, sometimes more than once. They have even posted the same question one after the other, a few minutes apart, and you have taken the trouble to answer them both. Can you please stop encouraging them!!!

I got called a misery by some rude person who had posted a crossword clue in Food and Drink .I just said i wished they would post in the correct category instead of posting all over the shop.
Give them an answer and then get abuse .B .Cheek !
I am getting brassed off with it too...can they not read or do they do it to be awkward. Bone idleness really .They just can"t be bothered and want someone else to do all the work. They are not actually learning anything or using their brains .
Duly noted I was starting to think something along those lines anyway after keep repeating answer from previous questions. Is there anybody else to look out for ?

I think Browneyes is the worst offender. I don't understand his motivation because it must take a bit of effort to type in all those questions yet it appears he (I say 'he'' because I don't think a woman would be that stubborn) is too lazy to scroll back to already asked questions. In fact, he doesn't even have to do that, if you use the search site, you're directed to the answer. And even easier, someone has posted a website which if you click on will give you the completed crossword to copy out. How easy is that?? My policy and that of some others is just not to answer previously answered questions.
At the top of Arts and Literature they have this..

If this is a quiz or puzzle question, please post it in the Quiz and Puzzles category.

This should be put at the top of some other categories as well.

It is annoying because all these single posts just push others down the page all the time.
It"s just laziness and a can"t be bothered attitude .
God knows how they get on in the real world.
And ...while I am having a rant.....you never ever see these people give anyone else any help It's all one way and never a thank you.
'trying to educate'...what a dreadful phrase with horrid connotations. It really saddens me to see this sort of humiliatory posting.
That may be an unfortunate turn of phrase Crosso ...but ...this poster justs posts practically every clue every week ,week after week from their crossword in single posts one after the after post after post. They never acknowledge any answers given and take it for granted that they will be answered. In spite of repeated requests to put them in one post, repeated links to online word finders, links to a site that gives all the answers and so on.Patience wears a bit thin after a while .You never see them again until they want the next lot of answers. They never help anyone else ..it"s a one way street for them ..so..yes..perhaps they should be educated ..to learn some manners !

But it doesn't sadden you that one person, in particular, is so irritating and selfish that he'll practically block the whole page with his individual postings and repeating of already posted questions thus pushing other questions off the front page.
I agree with everything FoxLee and shaneystar have said, but can I add a couple of my own irritations ?

First, people who ask for help/answers to clues in crosswords, then don't give the clues - they seem to expect eveybody to have bought the same newspaper they did.

Second, a slightly minor one, but I wish people would type their word patterns with an easily readable character for the blanks - I give up trying to count the number of dots between the letters in e....e..e, or the number of underscores (which don't even have a break between them) in h___t__f. I wish people would use ? or * or something that makes it obvious what the pattern of letters is that they are looking for.
Hear Hear

or as some other ABers would have it:

Here Here
I just know that I have had a lot of very helpful answers from the answerbankers on this post and elsewhere and I'm always thankful for that. It makes me wonder whether some people have English as a second language or whether they still don't understand the way around the AB site. I know that I was so excited when I first joined that I didn't even scroll down the topics section and find the 'Search' bar, so I must have annoyed quite a few people along the line. I think that someone should suggest on AB suggestions that the search bar should be used, 'cos at the moment it only states that questions should be put on the same posting. I'm not going to suggest it, though, as I'm very timid and only lurk! Thanks again to anyone who has given me answers, esp Shaney who sticks in my mind as being helpful. xxx no offence intended to anyone!

I've only been on AB for 2/3 months and thought it was a brilliant find. For quite a while I only went on Q & P until I investigated other topics. Like you, Crosso, I didn't know about the Search site until someone mentioned it but then I looked for it. When someone takes the trouble to point out things, to give advice on a better way of doing things, then you have to be very obstinate to ignore it. I take your point that for some Abers, English might be a second language but they would surely need to have a good grasp of it to undertake crosswords. We can only hope that the messages put in these posts will eventually sink in.
gen2, if you are criticising people's spelling and grammar then you could at least have a weblink to point them in the right direction, rather than mocking them. Your answer made no contribution at all to AB policy, and neither has this whole thread.
Threads and questions such as this waste just as much time as repeated threads and the answers they provoke are neither interesting nor educational. If you want to waste time and board space then post it on Body and Soul like everyone else. There will always be someone more chilled out to answer questions, and if they lie unanswered so be it. With regard to Browneyes...why surmise if it is a man or a woman, are you so superficial to be fantasising about your chastisement?
Question Author
Crosso - timid, eh? Perhaps Gen2 should be pointing you towards a dictionary. If this post has been such a waste of time, how come you've elongated it by 3 uninteresting threads? (your description). You know how it is, ships are referred to as "she", ignorant people as "he". As to your last remark, excuse me while I go and puke!
Now then folks...no need for silly remarks.
It is a fact that certain users hop all over the site with crossword q's on a regular basis and continue to do so in spite of people pointing them..politely I may add...in the right direction. Also there are those who continue to blithely bung up the pages week after week in the same fashion and pay no attention to any help you give them.
It's a catch 22 situation..you get awkward selfish stubborn people in the real world and in the cyber world I'm afraid.
Don't let it wind you up too much ...forget about it now and think of your blood pressure !
I often chip my nail varnish in annoyance when I see these reams of posts but it's all ephemeral and soon forgotten about.--'Til the next time !!!
FoxLee, do you really beleive that ignorant and stubborn people should be referred to as "he"?
Question Author
I couldn't keep typing he/she. As a person of the female variety, I know that if I'm asked to do something or conversely not to do something, I try and oblige. I think generally women are the 'pleasers', the ones who keep family life running smoothly. So faced with someone who was being stubborn, I allocated the male gender to him. There has been no response from him/her to correct this assumption.
