Im writing a review about a performance, and basically i want to say that the one-man show was basically to serve the guys ego - that it's all centered around him, that he's blowing his own trumpet etc. Im thinking there must be a specific, more intellectual word for this type of person, or this type of instance - someone doing something to make themself look good. Does anyone know what im trying to get at here?? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

What about 'ham'? The original word to describe an egocentric theatrical type - it puts your meaning accross very simply, and accurately, in one word.
The verb, 'to show-boat' means to put on an exaggerated performance in an effort to draw an audience's attention to oneself rather than others. This refers to the days of paddle-steamers, on the Mississippi for example, which specialised in putting on very overdone, showy performances. Such an actor would be called a 'show-boater'.
narcissistic is a good word. It means vain and self-obsessed. The noun is narcissist. It comes from a greek myth about a boy called Narcissus who was so taken with his own reflection that he pined away.
Something like 'egotistical', or self-glorifying, adulation...
