im all for it, as prices prevent many people from using their locals sadly, what with supermarket prices on beer below pub prices, people are stying home rather than going to their local pub.
there are many fine ales out there and lagers wines etc.

With supermarkets selling 500ml bottles of good quality Real Ale for £0.91 and the cheapest pub price at Weatherspoons £1.89 a pint (524 ml), I don't think there will be much difference. Many pubs are charging over £4.50 a pint!!
Plus they can't cut the tax on pub sales but not on 'off sales' so supermarkets will cut prices by the same margin.
I suspect that its more the drink drive laws than the price of beer which limits pub trade, also the outrageous price of soft drinks in pubs
The demise of the pub is part of the breakdown in society. Drinking there you got to know your local residents once. Drinking at home merely isolates you as you get intoxicated. Soon we will all only know our own household and pseudo names on internet sites.
"Brexit could increase the profit of publicans and brewers by 20p a pint if pubs were unleashed from Brussels' red tape"
There are lots of reasons why Pubs have been closing but from what I have seen in my home town, Wetherspoons seems to be bucking the trend.

Its not hard to see why....good, cheap ales, seasonably priced meals and no flipping loud pop music....whats not to like ?
The smoking ban certainly had an effect, no matter what you might think of the habit.
Only 19% of people now smoke here in Wales....ie, 81% don't.
Our Wetherspoons is booming often takes 10 mins to get near enough to the bar to get served. As I said a day or so ago, at least 60% of their trade is non alcoholic drinks and food.
Eddie...perhaps other Pub owners should spend an evening in their local Wetherspoons ( in disguise if necessary ! ) and then they might find out how to run a Pub and make money !

Wetherspoons great pubs, as mikey say's no loud music or pool tables
nice selection of beers and decent food ? at least the one i go to does
buffalo wings nice.
I find Wetherspoon pubs vary from area to area. Some have pleasant 'lounge standard' surroundings to be in; whilst others are plastic arenas serving crowds all jostling at the bar, just looking for 'value' pints. Not that I go to many these days.
OG....I only go to my Wetherspoons about 3-4 times a year, but have never been disappointed. We have a few in Swansea, and one of them is effectively the local CAMRA's "home pub" and headquarters.

I wish they would put the men's bog downstairs though !

there's a good one in cardiff called the gatekeeper
Let's have more 'Spoons and Poundland shops, they are what being British is all about.
My uncle owns two pubs. The smoking ban hasn't made a difference.
