Do you think it has to be to work? After all, for many, this would be the most dangerous part of the day to be on the roads:

sadly the cyclists are often a danger to other road users, that includes pedestrians, when they cycle on pedestrians pathways and weave in and out of traffic.
good for them if they stick to the highway code such as is, but they don't. If cycling is good for the heart and can reduce some cancers i'm all for it, as long as they obey the law.
Yes - cycling to/from work is the best exercise routine, because it's 'dead time'.

You have to commute (if you don't work from home), so that time is already built into your day. You have ten opportunities to work out already there.

The alternative is to get out on your bike after work, or at the weekends. Many would find this difficult as they have commitments (especially those with children) which can't be put aside.
Depends on your commute.

Having been a commuter of over 200 miles a day taking to my bike might occupy some considerable time out of my day in excess of the normal commute time.

It's just the latest craze. 6 months from now we will be reading how the research was flawed or something to discount the findings.
Exercise reduces the risk of heart disease.

I don't think that will ever be disputed.
you must remember to wear a "Deliveroo" box on your back when cycling - this makes you 100% invulnerable, and exempt from all known laws.
or a rickshaw cyclist, they have to be the worse thing for the capital..

Whilst I have no doubt that cycling is good for you, my one big moan about cyclists occurred again over the B/H weekend.
We have lots of good cycle lanes locally, well planned and maintained, but the Lycra Clad Terrorists still took to the roads in large groups 2 or 3 abreast, completely blocking off a complete lane and forcing motorists to follow them using a lower gear than they normally would so causing more pollution.
It's easy to see why they are criticised by many.
By the time I'd got the bike out of the shed, ridden to work, locked it up etc, I could have walked there twice over so am obviously destined for bad things...
Well...less than a week in and I have found somewhere fantastic to cycle......if I lived here I'd be fitter and live long.....Portugal....

In the UK I am so often made to feel, by motorists, it's my fault......I'm taking their space....I need too much room....I'm slowing their journey....and by god they are grumpy old trouts....

Portugal?...So different.....the motorists are patient, courteous and pleasant.......give me room .... wave....smile.....it's bliss.....x
