Hmmm,.... probably more likely to end in -t-e- , as in -ite.

Syenite (only 8 letters) can be rich in both nepheline and K-spars, a variety of which is called Larvikite (9 letters).

The only other nephiline-rich rocks are either coarse-grained, don't have 9 letters or are extremely obscure!!
Phonolite?

A guess, really, as I'm not a geologist.
Nice one, shammy. reckon you've got it - certainly fine-grained, alkaline/intermediate.

Your Ig and Met Pet is good, pet!

Honest, it was only a guess based on what I'd just googled!
And if I could understand what the hell you were going on about in the second half of your post, I ight be able to respond to that, too!
Sorry ! It means Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology. A branch of geology dealing with the study of volcanic, plutonic and metamorphic rocks, as opposed to sedimentary rocks,
(which is often disdainfully referred to as 'gardening'. )

I knew a Geordie geologist who would say "Ig & Met Pet, pet".
Thanks Brachiopod. Always willing to learn!
