Does anyone know if the DVD player / writer in a computer has the region settings like the seperate DVD players have?
I suspect they don't have, but I can't prove it

My Sony laptop certainly has, unlike domestic machines you get the ability to change the region four or five times and the the last one you change it to is what it will remain. There are of course software and firmware solutions on the 'net but they all carry their own risk.
I just purchased a Packard Bell Laptop last week & yes it has a section where if you wanted to change your region setting you could. However it only lets you change it 5 times.
And the con is on, just another way to make money for the big hollywood comapnies, buy ANY DVD a nice little app from slysoft, it bypasses your region code allowing you to play any dvd region, it also removes encrypted DVD's so you are able to back up the movies you have purchased. lets face it you don't want to spend 15 on a DVD and then it get's scratched and you have to fork out another 15.......sniff sniff, do I smell the MPAA on my trail...lol
