On a personal level, as with many things, you aren't going to change people's character, so the best thing to do is ignore it and get on with YOUR life...
We have some very dear friends where he is such a brand snob that the second child was walking before they had the brand of washing machine he liked. Where we lived we could buy spirits by the take your own bottle, whatever the size of the bottle. We kept a Famous Grouse bottle that we refilled when he was coming, he never twigged. I actually find inverted snobbery worse than normal snobbery, the hair-shirt brigade as OH calls them, a nastier version of the Four Yorkshiremen in Python.
I was working in a pub where one customer was a 'brand snob' he would only drink Gordon's gin and he particularly hated Squires gin One day we had run out of Gordon's and we had refilled the bottle with Squires. He came in bang on schedule and ordered a double gin. ''Gordon's mind you . don't try to give me that Squires muck!!''
The landlord served him and as he handed it over he winked at me and said '' Here's your Gordon's, Squire!''
He finished it and as he handed back the glass he said '' It's a lovely drop of gin Gordon's, not like that Squires rubbish''
If he found out he could have had the landlords licence!
