VCD's on to a DVD

How can I transfer my VCD's on to a DVD so that I can still watch them on a stand alone DVD player?
Also I have some DVDs that I can still play on the DVD player but I am unable to copy the disk on my pc is there anything I can do?

Are you VCRs copy protected so you are recording a blank screen?

If so, it would be illegal to copy them.

they are my own vcd's that i want to back up on dvd's for my own use

if you are asking how to record your video tapes onto dvd then my advice would be to run the output SCART cable from you VCR into the input SCART of your DVD recorder.

then just make sure press play on your VCR and record on the DVD recorder at the same time.

make sure that your DVD recorder is set to record through the SCART (or av as it is also known) channel

It is possible - I'll try to have a look at home. Basically you need to get the MPEG info off the VCD and onto your PC. Then you can convert it to DVD using your normal software. Unfortunately I can't remember which program to use! (I think it may have been VirtualDub).

If you're in a hurry, take a look at videohelp.com, as I'm pretty sure that they have instructions on how to get the sound + video off a VCD.

hi dj--this has taken a while but here goes--virtualbub as lemarchand suggested is one method--never had occasion to do this but gave it a try--i converted a 450 mb vcd to avi but it came out as over 5 gb--followed lemarchand's suggestion re: videohelp.com and did the following--downloaded isobuster--free from--

then followed the video help instructions from-- http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/convert/vc dtodvd/vcdtodvd.htm
this gave me an mpg file of 439mb which can then be burned to a dvd--post back if any problems

At home now, ajmmac is spot on about Isobuster. I had a feeling that it wasn't something that was primarily a video type program.

P.S @ ajmmac, VDub can create some HUGE files, but if the video and audio settings menus you should be able to set them to "direct stream copy" which is both fast and creates a normal sized file.

thanks for that lemarchand--i sort of figured that but it is not a program i use much and couldn't be bothered exploring it in detail--lazy git i guess--lol
