No, in my opinion they are ridiculous. The guy on the news this morning says 14 year olds will be legal to drive them and they may use cycle lanes. Considering how many fatalities there are with cyclists in major UK cities, this new C5 can surely just add to the mayhem.
It's a terrible idea. There's are reasons for the C5 not catching on. They look silly and they're dangerous.

Dazzle.....I can recall very clearly, the day that the C5 was launched. There had been a lot of pre-publicity about it, without any photos.

I couldn't believe my eyes when it was shown on the telly that evening ! It looked like a flimsy plastic version of the thing we boys used to make out a few bits of wood and a set of old pram wheels. In a climate like ours, launching a mode of transport where you were going to arrive at work every morning soaking wet was foolish in the extreme. As a toy it was OK-ish but as something that going to be used for commuting, it was a complete disaster.

On a more serious note, it nearly bankrupted Hoover, where it was made in their factory at Merthyr Tydfil.

Sinclair really didn't have a lot of luck with his inventing over the years. He came up with with a watch that took two arms to use....one to put the watch on, and another to press the button to get it to work.

An earlier version was a tiny transistor radio, that overheated so much, that most of them had to be sent back to Sinclair for repair.

The man should have stuck with computers, where he had a modicum of success.
Sinclair's C5 was useless and the modern incarnation will Not match the latest Citroën C5 :-

With improved battery technology then yes. Electric cars are a reality now where they were not when the C5 came out. I only ever saw one C5 and it looked very flimsy no more protection than a bicycle.
Question Author
Eddie....until electric cars can be produced with a normal range of miles, and cheaply enough, they will forever remain a niche market, IMHO.

One of the main selling points of this new C5 and the old one, was the ability for it to be driven, on the road, by children, and that thought horrifies me !

I can remember seeing a C5, wedged in-between to lorries, at a set of traffic lights in the 80's. All it had too protect itself, as a flag, at the end of a long, whippy line. Again, another horror.
^ I agree but the small size and light weight of the' new C5' may just give it enough range to be useful.
I remember crossing the road in London when the C5 was around - and nearly colliding with one as it scooted along.

I thought it looked flimsy, dangerous, and ridiculous then - nothing has happened in the intervening years to adjust that view.
Magnet powered cars might be the answer. :-
