I see , like

Sir Elton Hercules John, CBE (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight; 25 March 1947)

Can he call himself - Sir Reginald Dwight?
:o) Tilly

How could the same person be a different one to the one who was knighted? And what's taking Mandy so long?
Ah
If Fred Blogs is knighted and becomes Sir Fred Blogs , then changes his name by deed poll to John Smith he does not become Sir John Smith. Is that what you mean? You can't change knighthood to a new name!
hasn't jackthehat already answered this?

Eddie, that doesn't appear to be so:

f you also require your title to be changed to a title of nobility or honour e.g. Lord, Lady or Sir, the title must relate to an honour granted by the Sovereign of the United Kingdom and you must be entitled to use the title in accordance with the honour's traditional style of usage.

The whole honours things stinks.
It's when someone who deserves is given an MBE, such a healthcare worker and has to stand next to someone getting a knighthood for walking the queens corgis. The royals also like giving each other medals and titles for being royal and special.
I gave myself a Knight hood years ago.
I also tick the Lord , Lady , Sir or Lady box on online order forms when sending things or buying goods for family for a laugh.
Some biscuits in post from Fortnums (they do sell a nice shortbread a relative likes ) to Lady whatever.
To me due to the royals ruining it by giving them out to servants and friends , the honours now mean nothing.
