What is everyone getting their Dads for fathers day. Difficult isn't it? Personally, i don't even have a Dad now as he passed away 21 years ago but i have to buy for my husband, from my son from my first marriage plus our little boy, my husbands dad, my step-dad and my eldest sons Dad!!! Not bad when my own isn't even around. Its a nightmare. What else is there (on a budget) other than socks and pants? men!!!

Yes of course, you are totally correct there Dotty!

I just wanted to make sure Russian knew there was a difference between English & British..but it's rather like banging the head against a wall.

sorry, forgot the Irish! whoops! no offence, i love the Irish.
My stepdad married my mum 20 years ago,he lost his first wife and never had kids with her.Mum came with 3 daughters and 1 son in tow,and now 5 grand kids too.We all love to spoil him rotten on f.day-hes 82 bless him

Pippa you carry on mate!

Julie, you forgot the Irish!!!!! OOOOOO that will never do!

It's actually becoming quite painful Dotty..I need some Vodka & Cranberry ~ no wait, forget the cranberry.

Forget the vodka..shoot me now!

My Dad isn't around anymore, but I will kiss the photo I keep of him, Mum & me as a little girl, on my sideboard - I like to think he knows I'm thinking of him on Father's Day & every day of the year.

I also do the same for Mum on Mother's day.

God bless Mum's & Dad's. -xx-

sorry dot, i did apologise, straight the way. smudge, i do that too
Why should fathers & mothers be treated any differently on "their" day than any other. My son, who`s an adult, will give me a kiss because he feels like it wherever he is, even at his place of work. I would much prefer that than have him buy any of the commercialised crap. I don`t have my dad around anymore, so I can`t get him anything if I wanted to. While he was alive, I told him very often I loved him & did not depend on someone else`s words in a card to say so.

beejaybee - I used to tell Mum & Dad I loved them all year round too & our daughters & grandchildren do the same with us.

It's so nice to show how much you love & appreciate people - not just by some overpriced card!

Exactly smudge. It`s the same thing on Valentine`s day, Grandparents day etc. It`s all a money making "gimmick". Prices of flowers shoot up, even on Palm Sunday.
i think on fathers day i better get my dad a shovel cos he's been dead 20 years

i don't think it detracts from what we feel and show every day, its just a gesture. I wouldn't feel right not doing something for them. I know its all commercialized to make money but i don't mind for the ones i love the most.

my dad died 8yrs ago i find it really hard i have to buy my husbands dad a card,i sometimes cant read them as i get too upset, fathers day sexyrussian is when you let them know how much you think of them and show it your driving me mad with some of the stupid answers you give how can you say british and english are the same,my god are you thick coz thats how you come across to me right ive got that off my chest at last

Julie - I still bought Father & Mother's day cards & presents too, they were in addition to loving sentiments throughout the year.

Sadly, some people out there don't bother much with their parents & just sent them a card out of duty! Sad but true!

hi smudge, what i wouldn't give for a chance to be able to give my Dad a card. I wouldn't care what it cost. I used to find it really difficult buying cards for other peoples Dads but i think i've got used to it now and after all, nothing can bring him back. I will be thinking of him on Sunday though, but then again, i think about him most days.I will be having a little drink for him cause he liked a drop of sherry! Hers to all our dear departed dads!
thanks unruliejulie for that tribute, I've been without my Dad for 28 years (I can't believe it's that long) I still miss him so much, he was the best "Daddy" ever. So here's to Fathers everywhere this Sunday!

are you like me though lizziedrip, it is amazing how fast the years have gone since they passed away but in the same respect, it seems like forever since you last saw or heard them. Some days i try and remember my Dads voice, but it is difficult cause it is so long since i heard it. We never stop muissing them do we?
