I was given 2 ceramic pink lampbases which I like, but cannot seem to find lampshades that look right, size-wise and in proportion.

Is there a way to work it out? -i.e. height of base = shade?

I saw an assistant in a lighting shop hold the shade at right angles to the lamp base to check that the distance across the shade was the same as the height of the base. Does that make sense? Therefore, if the lamp base is 1 ft high the shade should be about 1 ft across the bottom....
