Dopes anyone know thename of an old film probably 30s or 40s that is in Black and White, and is a series of short stories all linked by a cat who is wandering into shops and around alleys? If I remeber rightly there's a murder in an old shop and I think the whole film is at night.

When I was younger (late 70's 80's) we used to get a video from the video rental shop called "That darn cat". I am sure it fitted this description. I can't remember much about the film, I think it may have been a Disney film. My Brother and I liked cats, and this was easier for my parents than getting a pet.
Sounds like a really interesting film for narrative structure, especially as it is so early.
Could be a British film called Bond Street (1948).
I think the film you are on about is the three lives of thomasina it was on the tv in the last two weeks
The Three Lives of Thomasina is not in black and white and doesn't date from the 30s or 40's.

Thanks for all your suggestions. It definately wasn't 'That Darn Cat' or 'The Three Lives of Thomasina', and I'm not sure about Bond Street as although I can find it listed on the International Movie Database it has no information about the film itself. From what I remember of the film is a bit sinister, and there's lots of shadowy scenes through gaps in doors, and through windows. It must be some kind of old horror/thriller type film. I just remember I really liked it and i would love to try and get hold of it again.
Another film it could be is The Devil Doll (1936). A very sinister little film set in a toyshop in Paris.
I think this might be an old horror film called "Cat's Eyes", although I can't remember if it was in black and white. It consisted of several short tales linked by a cat. I think it may have been a Hammer film, although I don't know whether this may have been a re-make of an earlier film
