Roundup
Boiling water. As I found out when trying to get rid of an ant's nest in the middle of the lawn. ;o(

As tony1941 indicates, Roundup will take care of the problem, but if you want an organic, totally safe for the environment weed killer, try this:

1 tablespoon of gin
1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap
1 quart of hot water
Mix thoroughly and place in a spray bottle. Spray the weeds until tey are wet. Spraying in the heat of the day helps. Works well for us...

Fabric won't stop weeds with pointy leaves, like grasses - they just push through it. You'd need plastic sheeting instead.
