Chap here in Kerry was caught way over the drink drive limit. He should have had a three year ban....but.....

The implementation of the ban has been adjourned until beyond September so the accused can go to the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival to find himself a "nice woman" to drive him around!....:-)

You'd have to ask NJ.
//When asked how many cows he had, Mr O’Shea told the court he had “13 or 14”.//

i'm surprised the judge didn't order him to go to numeracy classes
that actually sounds rather sensible. Nice women may run a mile, I suspect, but no harm done if that's the case.

He'll let me know I'm sure, OG....

That struck me, Ael.....if I had cows I think I'd know how many....

Oh I don't know, Jno......I've been to Lisdoonvarna.....a driving ban to stop anyone going there would be a favour.....
Could be an extra punishment I guess.... :-)
this might be your lucky year, gness!

Jno....I'd poke my eyes out with a hot shillelagh rather that go there again.....!
Barbara Knox from Corrie was caught drink driving in April 2014 the same week as my brother-in-law, his case was heard 6 weeks later and was banned yet Barbara Knox was driving for almost a year before she was banned.
Ah the whimsical logic of the Emerald isle. I'm reminded of Spike Milligan's war memories in which a conversation went something along the lines of...

'Ah, Milligan I hear your parents are from Ireland'

'Yes sir, they are'

'Which Part'

'Sir, all of them sir'
It is Ireland after all !!
But even in the UK it is possible that a ban would not be imposed. The man is a self employed farmer living in an area with no public transport, a car is essential for him to earn his living. There are cases in the UK where a ban has not been imposed in such cases. In this case the ban has only been postponed for 6 months while he tries to find a way to keep using his car. In the UK a good lawyer would have got him off without a ban at all.
