As above - has anyone got a recommendation for the 'black light' bug zappers that could dispatch house flies? We bought a little one but have worked out that the bars protecting the charged grid that kills the insects are too close together for bigger flies to get through. It dispatches small moths (not so good) and midge/mossie size insects just fine.

Don't have great experience of electric fly killers. But I bought one from Maplin ES a few years back and that works fine. (Roast fly is not a good fragrance though.) I'd suggest just looking around and checking the grid before purchase.

I don't recommend those small cylinder type ones though. They don't seem to last and look deliberately designed not to be repaired/maintained.

Thanks Old Geezer - yes that's the sort we have. Fed up of chasing flies around with a rolled up newspaper!

Murraymints, see above - and extension of the rolled up newspaper! Have looked for one of those in the local shops with no luck.
I have got this one and it works well. The trick is to keep it in a dark part of the room so the blue light is the brightest thing in the area

Thankyou Woofgang, that looks just the ticket. The kitchen is pretty dark in the summer as we have trees outside. Just to confirm - does it take out the big housefly/bluebottles?
yes. It does. I got it because I hate the things, also the dogs find the buzz scarey
