have any women out there been prescribed the diabetic drug metformin for polycystic ovaries? if so, have you noticed any benefits or side effects. Can it be prescribed indefinately? I've heard it works for some and not for others, has anyone any insight as to why that may be.Any info would be great.

Yes! I was, I had to beg for the medication though, it changed my life! basically I suffered with severe weight gain, no periods (2 a year), my Doc seems happy to keep me on them permanently! I did experience some tummy ache with them, but it soon disappeared. On the tablets I have 28 day cycles, I have tried to stop taking them but my Periods stopped too! Good luck I hope they work for you!
...and I lost ALL my excess weight :-)
