38,300 but I did not tick a box unless I could immediately the the word in a sentence. Plus it has to be about how many you can use in everyday speech without having to dwell and think about what to say next.

Mine sounds impressive, but English is only one of my languages. I might have a much greater total vocabulary if the words I know in my other languages were added on.

If you read the home page they are compiling statistics about vocabulary by age, area and native language. That is why they ask about questions about your background. They are asking people to share the quiz with as many others as possible to increase the data base.
