Ken Morley played Colonel von Flockenstoffen, Sam Kelly was Captain Hans Geering, and the colonel (played by Richard Marner) was named Kurt von Strohm.

But why does Sam Kelly say "Club!" all the time? Well because he's Jewish, he didn't want to say "Heil Hitler!"

Sad as I am for knowing this - he says "klupp" not "club" - it's German slang and basically means "ditto". Probably for the same reason as artisan suggests.

I don't see why it's sad to know German. I remembered later it was something with a k but couldn't change it.
