I've just watched 'The Runaway Jury' which i really enjoyed. One question, why was the protagnoist changed from a tobacco company to an arms company - surely neither are high in the list of America's great and good? Or were someone's toes being stepped on - maybe someone with friends in high (or low) places?

Well, there was a hardhitting film made a few years ago about the legal battle against the tobacco companies - "The Insider" with Russel Crowe and Al Pacino; and in a sense that battle is no longer as newsworthy, since the case for compensation has now been achieved. So, presumably, Hollywood thought a film about a case against a gun company would be more "sexy". (I've also just seen the movie, and thought it quite entertaining, though rather implausible.)
