it's part of the yellow box around the white space you are typing in

there's a B ( bold ), I ( italic ) U ( underlined ) and A ( colours ).

You can also range the text to the left, or right, or centre.

The text formatting options are available in IE but not Firefox.

If you are using Firefox you can install an extension to open webpages in an IE Tab and this will allow you to utilise the formatting options.

Don't apologise, Penlid, it's their fault for not supporting you. And me, for that matter. The text formatting options aren't available on Safari or Gecko either, and I've been boycotting IE since 1998 so it's not an option. I'm not too fussed, mind - black is slimming, after all ;o)

Sorry don't understand, how does changing the colour of the font hide the answer?

Changing the font colour to that of the background renders text invisible until you highlight it...

You're right dot.hawkes, my only excuse is that I was suppose to be working and was typing the answer stood up, so my plasma screen was at an angle to my vision, and appeared lighter : )
