Problems with top left hand corner:

1a Church next to quite cove (4) I have: C???
2d Brave leading hospital swiftly (5) I have ??A?E
[First letter of 2d is third letter of 1a]

Finally, can anyone confirm CHARTIST for 18d - Stock-market specialist upset by IT crash on closing of account? I have C?A?T?S? and can't see how chartist (or anything else) fits the clue....

1a Chap
2d Apace
18d. Yes.

Sorry, I should have explained the above, perhaps.
Ch = church, a = a (it actually says 'a quiet cove') and p = quiet. Chap is another word for cove as in man.
It's Apache (Indian brave) without the 'h' for hospital. A chartist is someone who studies charts of past performance for stocks and shares.

2d was possibly meant to read 'leaving hospital'...

Thank you both.

Naturally, I worked out Apace the very moment I posted the question, and I agree that it should probably be leaving.

And I've just noticed that chartist is an anagram, too.

Isn't it easy when you know the answers?

Thanks again.
