I have an old flip top sony cmd Z7. I went to Spain for a couple of days and suddenly this icon has appreared on my phone and I just can't figure out what it is.It's a large arrow coming down and pointing to the right (sort of resting on a small white square). Have cleared all phone history and as far as I know my phone doesn't do divert so ..... help?

From the description you give it sounds like the symbol on your phone is the one normally displayed to alert you to the fact that it is roaming. i.e. it is connected to a network other than the one you subscribe to.

It is important now that your back in the UK to search for networks and reacquire your normal one, as calls made when roaming are generally quite a bit more expensive.
