Have just 'discovered' this programme and have been catching up on it, watching three or four episodes a day, (oh the joys of being retired), but why, with the exception of the sexy Penny, do they all wear so many clothes?

They live in California so we must assume it is warm most of the time, but Raj sometimes wears up to five layers. He must have adjusted to the climate by now. And Leonard and Howard are also warmly dressed, with Amy in big bulky jumpers most of the time. (I know the actor who plays her is very modest in real life, but even so.) Yes, I am aware it is only a TV programme.

I think it is to emphasise their nerdiness.

If they wore skimpy clothes we might forget they are scientists:)
Have never noticed that they were overdressed. I guess the American producers knew what folk normally wear in that part of the world.
I've only ever noticed Penny. :-)
Ah yes. The ladies are inevitably always wearing too many clothes.
Its all part of the characters they play.

Cloverjo, two good thoughts.
In indoor public spaces in California, the air conditioning is often freezing....maybe that could be a part of the reason?
