I am separated from my husband and he wants to sign the house over to me. How is this done and what is the cheapest way of this being done. Also, if/when we devorce can he make a claim to the property if he should change his mind about me owning the property.

Assuming no differences in principle within the UK, on my own experience this sort of thing is basically a sale without a price, gifting, and the process is therefore more or less the same but without stamp duty. It is advisable to have a lawyer complete the process in order to make certain it is watertight. If a proper handover takes place then any adult is committed from the point of signature onward and there will be no turning back without the other party's consent and full co-operation. It costs you to have a lawyer clap eyes on you but the process you are contemplating is relatively cheap in lawyer's terms, a snip at perhaps 1000 but it is possible that it will be suggested that two independent ones may have to be involved to avoid accusation of a conflict of interests (seek advice, but be aware that opinions can be diametrically opposed - that's lawyers for you) - if upheld this could conceivably nullify the agreement or at least lead to serious dispute if a challenge is mounted. Best of luck to both of you.
