Georgette Heyer's novels are excellent , as Jourdain has said. I love them and have read them all, transports you back to Regency England. Anything by Bill Bryson is good, I particularly enjoyed Down Under about his trip to Australia. Jean Plaidy's historical novels are also good and very well researched. Hope you manage to find something that your Mother will like.

Ooops, didn't realise that was a forbidden word! It was referring to the characteristics of female dogs. :-)
Has she read "The Name of the Rose" by Umberto Eco? I think she would enjoy that.
Elina, this David Lloyd is the former cricketer, nicknamed Bumble. He is quite entertaining even if you don't like sport. Richard Wiseman has written lots of books you might enjoy, as you like psychology.
