late 70's or early 80's show

does anyone remember a comedy sitcom type programme from i think, the early 80's? It was based round a man who was a cartoonist and his family, and he wore a puppet on his drawing hand, cant remember the name of the show or the actor, please help if you can, this has been driving me mad for months!!
