tosh
Nonsense... Tosh is Tosh! The answer is Bosh, which also means nonsense. 'Boshta' is Australian for 'good' and you take off the 'ta' (expressing thanks.).
Artillery... Les is French for 'the',when referring to a plural.

Estuarine... I've got Tellens, molluscs.
Question Author
I can see it is ARLES but how? RA backwards is artillery, les is French, but what has ARLES to do with advance locally?

And how does TELLENS fit with the rest of the clue 'being attached to order
Question Author
ens = abstract being, tell = order, will do nicely.

Any thoughts about ;Pierre....' = answer now is TU?FER
Tell - order
Ens - being or existence
Chambers gives arles as a Scottish/N. England word for a preliminary payment i.e. an advance
a telfer is a cable car...
I wish you'd give numbers - it makes it easier to reply!

28 A. Pierre 's reflection when returning in cable-car (6)
Telfer, a cable-car. It's Reflet, French for reflection, I think, reversed.
Question Author
OK

Still leaves me 'Pierre .....cable car' TU?FER. I might have the U wrong - TELFER is a kind of cable car.

Which means that 'Unproductive scottish island (4)' is NOt 'mull' but something else ?ELL
Question Author
TELFER - I agree so I have definitely got MULL wrong.

SO my last clue is 26D 'unproductive Scottish island (4)' ?ELL
Yell - is Scottish island and also alternative for yeld which means unproductve
Question Author
Oooh!!

That is a bit obscure!!

Thanks everyone.
you're welcome (i usually have to refer to the printed dictionary to find some of these more obscure words)
